Writing

I’ve written extensively for the BBC throughout my career but am very proud to also have bylines with The Guardian, National Geographic, Stylist, Refinery29 and the i, to name but a few. As a confident generalist, few topics are out of bounds and the same goes for format - features, explainers and long reads across lifstyle, health, science and food, I’ve written and edited them all. Below is selection of work from throughout my career.

The Guardian logo

“I started kickboxing in a bid to be like Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Twenty years on, it turns out my ageing body could handle much more than I thought”

The Refinery29 logo

“It was the perfect trip, not least because it was a rare opportunity to look back on our life together and pat ourselves on the back for a friendship well done”

The i paper logo

“I felt guilty for not being able to remember the things we’d done together and grief for having lost the ability to ask. That’s perhaps the magic of the grief rave – it provides the space to process something private, and maybe even reframe it”

The National Goegraphic logo

“‘Fast fashion’ often come with guilt - not just for the money spent but because it encourages the unethical treatment of workers and adds to the impact unwanted clothes have on our planet”

Stylist Magazine logo

“I began to question the narrative I’d been pedalling for three decades: could I really not float and learn to swim? Or had I simply never faced my fear?”

Editing

I edited hundreds of features in my staff roles at the BBC website but these are just a few of my favourites. I specialised in long reads and was particularly interested in highlighting injustice, particularly against women, but also those stories that celebrated their achievements.

I also have a Substack where I write about everything from the best Welsh beaches to the books I’ve rated and hated so far this year.
